Pink City Guide – Know Why, What, and What About Jaipur

The historic city Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan state. The city located in the western region of Rajasthan at 26.9°N 75.8°E. Jaipur is famous as Pink City and is an adorable destination to spend laudable holidays. It is an important arm of Golden Triangle. The monuments and fortifications narrate its impressive history while the local markets give you the opportunity to shop exclusive jewelry and handicrafts.

History of Jaipur:
Sawai Jai Singh II, the king of Amer founded the city of Jaipur in 1726. Amer, which is 11 km from Jaipur was falling-out from a dearth of water. So, the king planned to shift his capital from Amer to Jaipur to accommodate growing population and meet the scarcity of water.

The baked salmon painted structures have created a distinct identity for the city. This pink appearance has a legend following it. In 1876, as a gesture of warmth during the visit of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria Maharaja Ram Singh ordered to paint the city in pink color. Lord Albert mesmerized by the pink beauty named the city Pink city. The Maharaja maintained the color for the future.

Culture of Rajasthan:
Rajasthani people are very warm-hearted. They have maintained the traditional cultural heritage of the state. The caste system is rife in the society. Although the city Jaipur is populated by many religions, yet the major population of Jaipur is Hindu. The people of Jaipur are very religious; the plenty of temples and shrines affirms this. Many local fairs and festivals like Gangaur and Teej are popular worldwide. Besides the traditional festivals Jaipur Literature Festival interest literature enthusiasts of the world.

Not many know Jaipur has a pet culture. The Royals and noblemen used to keep elephants while the commoners used to rear cow, camel, or a donkey.

The local women dress in a traditional swirling skirt with the choli or a vibrantly dyed saree. Folk men dress in dhoti- kurta and colorful turbans.

Cuisines of Rajasthan:
The authentic Jaipuri cuisine is spicy and a mix of beautiful colors. Dal Bati Churma is a rich preparation that has gained many fans around the world. As much as the spiciness in the food the sweets are popular too. Ghevar, moongthaal, chauguni ke laddu, Feeni, and gajak are the famous sweets of Jaipur. Missi roti, Bajre ki Roti, Gatte ki sabzi, bajre, and make ki ghat also form an important part of Jaipur food.

Jaipur is a major tourism center of Rajasthan. According to Conde Nast Traveller Readers Choice Survey conducted in 2008 Jaipur is the 7th best place to visit in Asia. Climate of Jaipur:
Jaipur has dry, semi-arid climate. The temperature soars high in summer from April to the beginning of July. The average temperature remains around 30 °C. The monsoon season begins from June and continues till September.

Best time to visit:
Winters are the most pleasant time to visit the city of Jaipur. The mild temperature of October is tourist friendly. Usually, there is no humidity, but sometimes the cold ranges between 10-15°C and the breeze cause freezing.

How to Reach:
Jaipur is convenient to reach by air, train, and road.

Airway: Jaipur has its airport in Sanganer town which is 10 km from the city center. Sanganer Airport hosts domestic well as international flights.
Railways: Jaipur has a couple of small stations within the city. A proper network of rail tracks connects most of the cities to Jaipur.
Roadways: Comfortable buses and taxi service are the reliable modes of travel to Jaipur. You can find good road connectivity of Jaipur with even the smaller places around.
