Udaipur is a bright city of western Rajasthan, established along the east of Pichola Lake. The city is located at an altitude of 598.00 m above sea level and at 24.525049°N 73.677116°E. The beauty of the city lies in doting gardens, ornate palaces, and magnificent monuments. They are in perfect harmony with remarkable natural formations.

There are many interconnected artificial lakes around the city. Hence, Udaipur is fondly called the City of Lakes. The Aravalli range stretches along the intense forest.

Udaipur is the coolest destination of Rajasthan. Its natural beauty earned the name Venice of the East and the Kashmir of Rajasthan for Udaipur.

History of Udaipur:
This municipal corporation was once the capital of the Mewar Kingdom. Earlier to it Ayad served as the capital of Mewar. The rulers of Chittor were aware of the vulnerability of the Girwa region. Thus the Sisodia Rajput decided to move his capital to the secure location. In the 16th century the Mughal emperor Akbar invaded Chittor. The Rajput king Maharana Udai Singh II fled away and founded Udaipur as his new capital. Udaipur became the British princely state after 1818.

Udaipur became part of Rajasthan after India gained independence in 1947.

Culture of Udaipur:
The vibrant culture of Rajasthan is well reflected in Udaipur’s social order. Since Udaipur is close to Gujarat border the city shows a blend of two very affluent cultures. People are open-minded and hospitable. Jainism is the main religion followed here. The city breathes the traditions of the past while keeping up with modern lifestyle. Folk dances and music are a central element of any ethnicity. Kachchhi Ghodi, Chari, Bhavai, Terahtaali, Kalbeliya, and Ghoomar are widely popular. Dancers clad in elaborate costumes sway to the music beats.

Folk artists are seen playing traditional instruments like Morchang, Tanpura, and Naad. Mewar region is known for the Phad paintings. The miniature paintings drawn on walls mirror the royal lineage of Rajasthan. These paintings depict scenes from mythology and chivalry acts.

In 2009, Udaipur was voted as the Best City in the World by the Travel and Leisure Magazine. Also, and is a favorite place for destination weddings.

Cuisine of Udaipur:
Due to Jains and Vaishnavs cuisine of Udaipur involves vegetarian dishes. Udaipur has been a land of warriors, so, there are lots of non-vegetarian food varieties. Non-vegetarian delicacies are lip-smacking. Simple ingredients and the bold spicy flavors are characteristics of Rajasthani food. Yoghurt clarified butter, and mango powder is predominately used in Rajasthan.

The threesome, Dal-Bati-Churma is a staple diet in this part of Rajasthan too.

Temperature of Udaipur:
Summer in Udaipur begins from Mid-March when the mercury hit 28°C and the mercury soars high up to 40°C. The monsoon showers lower the temperature to 25°C.

Best time to visit Udaipur:
Winters are the best season to visit Udaipur. Travelers can visit anytime from the end of monsoon in September till March. Sometimes the temperature during winter dips to 10°C, otherwise remain pleasant at 25°C.
