May is the time to visit Goa for Handicraft lovers. Every year Margao Crafts Festival is organized by the Goa Handicrafts, Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (G.H.R.S.SI.D.C) in collaboration with the Margao based Kalashree Mahila Mandal.
The festival is another rare treat especially for tourists coming from different parts of the country. It is one of the most famous festivals of Goa. It is a part of the 50 years achievement of the liberation of the state, an open platform to showcase not only the local handicraft talent but also act as a promotional event for the state’s handicraft industry to lure fresh business opportunities.
The two day festival introduces the visitors to the rare and traditional side of the state and the food lovers can easily taste the local cuisine. To be more precise, the festival clearly portrays the history and the present state of the handicraft industry.
The festival usually starts with a ‘Shobha Yatra’ a traditional folk dance performed by local artists. Apart from this, to keep the visitors engage a number of musical shows, stage shows and dance performances are also part of the festival.
To make the festival more lively number of cultural events is organized by the Kalashree Mahila Mandal. You can participate in allocation competition, flower arrangement competition; vegetable competition, workshops and musical programmes as these are some of the other major attractions of the festival that will keep you engaged.
